A Chinese speed skater has been banned from national competition for a year after he gave a "one-fingered salute" to spectators who had jeered him, according to state press.

Sweden beats Slovakia to reach world junior final

Mikael Backlund helped Sweden advance to the world junior hockey championship final, scoring two goals in a 5-3 comeback victory over Slovakia on Saturday.

David Ullstrom, Simon Hjalmarsson and Oscar Moller also scored for Sweden, which will face the Canada-Russia semifinal winner Monday night. Last year in the Czech Republic, Canada beat Sweden in overtime in the final for its fourth straight title.

'I played in the final last year, but this is incredible with the fans here,' Backlund said of the crowd of 18,112 fans at Scotiabank Place.

Jordan Eberle and John Tavares scored in a shootout and Canada beat Russia 6-5 on Saturday night to advance to world junior hockey championship final for the eighth straight season.

Eberle, a first-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers who plays for the Regina Pats in the Western Hockey League, scored twice in regulation, the second with 5 seconds left and goalie Dustin Tokarski off for an extra attacker.

'I didn't ever give up and I think that's the biggest thing for Team Canada,' Eberle said. 'We didn't give up all throughout the game.

2 drivers, passenger die in Wis. snowmobiles crash

Authorities say two snowmobilers and a passenger died when their vehicles crashed on a trail in northern Wisconsin.

Vilas (VYE'-lahs) County sheriff's officials say both drivers and the passenger died Saturday morning in the town of Arbor Vitae (VYE'-tah).

The names of the dead have not been released.

The state Department of Natural Resources and the Vilas County coroner are investigating the accident.

The town is about 120 miles northwest of Green Bay.
