Waxman replaces Dingell as Senate energy chair

House Democrats voted today to put Henry Waxman at the helm of the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee, replacing longtime chairman John Dingell.

One consequence of the shift could be a boost for President-elect Barack Obama's sweeping proposals on global warming and cleaner energy.

This is excellent news for all of us (all people in the world). Representative Dingell has been the protector of the interest of oil companies and led the fight against energy bills that would have help our country's energy independence.

I think someone has slipped a moron pill into your Grape Soda. Waxman has been one of the most sincere, dedicated, and capable lawmakers. His hearings on the tobacco industry alone, which resulted in severe penalties, have earned the respect of all reasonable people. His victory over the obstructionist Dingell will produce great results.

hi grape soda we aren't in bankruptsy yet ,maybe before BUSHis out of office though. If youare speaking of the economy, you have aright to complain. But sure haven't seen the worst yet. we are ina deeper recession ,sliding into a depression real fast. grape it is worse than ou ting. it has been sliding down hilleversince ENRON went belly up. and we just got out of a recession that started in 1992 in about 1993. that was when employment really started picking up and going normal. this recession started When BUSH's SEC> of treasury started lowering the inter bank loans to banks. this held the recession back by a temporily proping up the wall street BANKERS. but they did not watch the oil speculators close enough and the rise of gas prices busted the bubble on wall street. this the causes of wall street collapsing. BUT WE HAVE ANOTHER CAUSE THAT SPEED UP WALL STREETS DOWN FALL. ONAPRIL OF 2004 THE WALL STREET BANKERS asked and recieved their wish to have the SECURITY EXCHANGE COMMISSION to do away withe rules and regulations that governed the reserves they held in reserve for emergencies, the BANKERS were allowed to spend all their reserves andwhen they lost all their money on bad investments they had no emergency funds to fall bach on.

Dingell ,this 82 years old guy is wicked. He backed oil companies to suck our blood. He should go to jail.
$3.89 / gallon , does this make sense at all?
He didn't feel it because he had all the privileges living on taxepayers money for decades.
He gives me some nausea.

I think perhaps my post was lost in translation, I was referring to the economy of California and NOT the national economy.
I see you’ve got your partisan blinders on and single out Bush for our economic problems but fail to mention several things done by the Democrats to help get us in this mess.
Before you start spewing your “neo con” knee jerk accusations know that I do not support Bush, I didn’t vote for Juan McCain and I’m NOT a Republican.

The NY Times five years ago reported that the Bush administration proposed increased oversight and regulation of Fannie and Freddie, but Democrats pushed back. "The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago. Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry. The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios." Democrats pushed back: "Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders and Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing. "These two entities, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are not facing any kind of financial crisis," said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. "The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing." Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed. "I don't see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing," Mr. Watt said." You think Pelosi is going to bring this up?

I could go on and on all day but in the end it’s the irresponsible out of control spending by BOTH parties that has dug such a deep hole and I don’t see it changing with the enlightened one which is why I voted 3rd party.
