NATO must stand up to Russia

Read the first five paragraphs of the NATO statement on the Russian invasion of Georgia and you will find not a hint of who invaded whom.

NATO should stand up to Bush for pushing that idiot Georgian to take on Russia for oil profits.

What statement are they referring to? Can you provide a link? The story is superfluous without it.

I agree. And Europe should go further, and reject NATO replacing it with National guard units or military for each country to protect their own country instead of helping the USA push their imperialism into Eastern Europe and the world.

I thought NATO's forte was bombing civilian targets to get countries like Georgia to let go of their separatist republics, not to keep them.

What happened? Did I fall asleep and miss a time warp worm hole in the universe or something?

It's an opinion and I agree that NATO should attack the U.S.A. for arming, funding and training a Georgian army whose commander in chief is an unstable lunitic called Saakashvili.
It's about as stupid as it gets on the part of the U.S.A. Look at the Russian peacekeepers and the innocent South Ossetian the American backed Georgian military slaughtered while they slept.
Many NATO countries have no wish to go to war for the U.S. against Russia.

Russia clearly provoked Georgia into acting, repeatedly violateing there airspace, shelling georgian towns, the list goes on!
And the sheer number of forces there in 24 hours denotes pre-meditation on behalf of russia, that kind of firpower cant be organised off the drop of a hat. 20,000 troops 500 tanks and about as many planes! Wake up people, this is russia still thinking its 1890 and the old imperial ways still exist, and if you say america is an imperialist country you do not understand the meaning of the word and should probably go back to school.

Spot on. It's about time ordinary Russians realised what is going on in their country.

Look at what NATO genociders did in the Balkans. Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo are every bit as Serbian as South Ossetia and Abkhazia are Georgian.
Speaking of imperialism the "ethnic cleansers" who exploited the potato blight and used the famine for purposes of anglicization still occupy Ulster. Perhaps you should be more worried about that injustice?

The EU is far wealthy enough to afford its own defense. They certainly do not need the USA and Canada.
They should "throw the oppressors out".

What injustice? was I alive when the famine was going on? no I was not! NATO stoped the serbs committing any more genocides upon the muslim populations! Northern Ireland and Ireland are two different countries, I have accepted it, maybe its time you do to.
I'm not debateing that those two provinces are part of Georgia, the people dont want it so its inevitable, but lets see if they become russian or there own seperate countries like kosovo and bosnia.

To strategist
If you are what your name suggests you can not deny that it was pre meditated on behalf of russia due simply to the amount of troops there. Also the incidents leading up to the war were clear provocations.

Western Europe has woke up and does not want nations like Ukraine and Georgia in NATO. No one wants to increase the chances of confrontation between nuclear giants. There will always be a lot of talk and no action. Georgia is simply not worth it. I know I know they gave Bush a bunch of BS of how those nations are going to become a part of NATO in the future but I am guessing Russia is going to get admitted and then kicked out of NATO a few times before that “FUTURE” happens.

Why the hell is US so god damn involved. Europe has enough finances and large enough military to stand against Russia alone. Not to mention the technological advantage of the EU forces. Let the French, Germans and Italians handle this one. We got a few conflicts of our own and the last thing we need is to piss off the Russians. I know they wont do anything against us directly, but just supplying some of the latest Kornet rockets to insurgents in Iraq will really REALLY ruin our year. Or how about SA10s to take down A10s and helicopters, our ground troops rely heavily on their support and SA10s are perfect weapons to take them down.

What oppressors? And why should we throw anybody out of Europe that we get on with and have normal relations with? It's the Ruskies fault that we want nothing to do with them at the moment.
