Our hitters work like dogs to get the lead and that IDIOT Woods just throws it away...I'm sick of his wild pitching!!!! Lou better get Woods into the woodshed and beat the living pujols out of him! Then Lilly has a decent game, Rami comes thru...and Woods crumbles...UnBeLievable!!!

I never understand why managers today continue to use the same tired strategy by bringing in their stopper in the 9th. Everyone has a bad day, but if any pitcher starts getting wild, don't you think he should get pulled? Similarly, why pull a pitcher in middle relief if they haven't given up anything. I never can understand why we couldn't leave Marmol (or Howry or Cotts or whomever) in there until they give up at least a hit or walk. Instead, we trot out there the same strategy every time. I'd rather see Marmol go back in the 9th. If he walks someone, then bring in Woods.

Still believe the Cubs can take the series tomorrow, but hate to lose games we should have one.

Cubs had a chance to ice this game in the 7th. Two runs in after Ramirez's homer, and they have men on first and third with nobody out and don't score.
Edmonds should have buried Molina. He could have ran him over before the ball got to him and chose to go around him instead. That was a HUGE play in this game.

As for Wood, you can always tell when he is going to blow a save. He either hits or walks the first guy in the inning and then it's all downhill from there. Absolutely no excuse to walk Ludwing and Molina and give up a double to weak hitting Adam Kennedy. Plus he had the advantage of the shadows making it difficult for the hitters. A terrible, terrible loss.

Wood has been good, but giving up the bottom 9th hits and walks in a fight for 1st place can only be considered a CHOKE!!!

I yank Woods after the 2 walks, and if not then, DEFINITELY after the run-scoring double. If you can't get one of the first 3 batters out, you don't have it that day. Of course, I would have pulled Marmol a few days ago when he came in and walked the first 2 batters. Instead, Lou leaves him in and a 3-run homer gets hit that costs the Cubs the victory.

Lou has made some shady decisions lately, and leaving pitchers in when they clearly don't have it is just one pattern of silliness. Another is sticking with Quade at 3rd base, who sent Edmonds, and turned a simple fly out into a double-play. That pretty much bailed out the Cards in the 8th - that was looking like it could be a big inning.

Lou's got to rethink his bullpen use, some of his goofy lineups, and his decisions to pinch hit (I saw last week where he pulled Edmonds, who just hit a homer in his last AB, for Matt Murton, just because the pitcher had a better BA against lefties - are you kidding me??? Of course, Murton struck out, and the Cubs blew a scoring chance that cost them another game).

Wake up, Lou, and pull your head out from between your cheeks.

Why do we continue to keep Larry Rothchild as a pitching coach year after year. It is the same song and dance, it is always the pitching. FIRE ROTHCHILD!!!!!!Not believing anymore. Put the 100 up on the AC board. Grandfather went to his grave hoping for a World Series, my dad will probably go to his grave hoping for the same and I'm starting to believe that this will be the same for me. Won't happen in my lifetime.

Oh yeah, and someone's gotta fire Larry Rothschild. If it weren't for Maddux being here for almost 2 years, the whole bullpen would be full of headcases like Kyle Farnsworth or David Aardsma. Larry's coaching results in short-term success, but quick burnout of relievers. That won't win you ballgames in October, if you are even lucky enough to be playing then.

Yeah, that's it. Instead of admitting how crappy our bullpen is you look for an excuse on the other team.

Last week, it was guys like you talking about the size of Carlos Quentin's head and making the same claim.

"Fans" like you make me sick.

Wood, Marmol, Howry, Cotts, Wuertz...admit it folks. This bullpen isn't going to win us a World Series.

I know it's a long season but something has got to be done to improve this bullpen. I have no answers for it but, it appears that neither do Jim and Lou.

Just one of those days, but I hate to see it against St. Louis. Would threw 30 pitches today after pitching yesterday. Bad call by Lou. I can understand sticking with a guy in a tough situation to toughen him up, but Wood wasn't spotting his pitches and he was probably tired. Should have brought Howry in to finish it. Dumb call by Piniella.
