Yes, I think that anything that would effect his or her judgement is something to be considered.

Depends on the religion. Really more interested in results. Don't think anybody has the right to kill others in the name of a religion or force one's religion on others. Also believe that we are responsible for our actions and your past or the company you keep tells a lot about the person.

It should:

(1) Not be an issue what a candidate's religion is;

(2) Not be a means for a candidate to cheaply buy votes such as George W. Bush did in both 2000 and 2004.

It's a slimy way to garner votes.

Obama is a member of a racist church. That alone would disqualify him if there weren't a double standard. www.tcucc.com

It is absolutely horrifying that you people in the U.S. feel the need to vote for someone according to their religious views. As long as the candidate has a solid platform with the intent for betterment of his/her country, it shouldn't matter what he/she believes or doesn't believe in. As Sweetpea said, it's just a cheap way to win free votes.

If you knew anything about OUR American History, you would not think that.

Really now...so why exactly did our founding fathers come here?? If you knew anything about OUR history, you would remember the fact that we have the right to believe in ANY religion even if you are president.

Fact: The majority of our founding fathers were Free Masons. The masons are NOT based on one religion, they only require that you believe in some sort of higher power.

So, Muslims and Hindus can be Free Masons? Can Wiccans be Masons? I thought only protestant christians could be Masons?

Yes, they all can. Half the men in my family were free masons, and I was active in Job's Daughters. The Free Masons pretty much created our Declaration and that is why we have freedom of religion.

No it shouldn't matter. That being said, every candidate, religious or otherwise will aim - if elected - to impose their beliefs and values on those who don't agree with them.

It should be an issue but not a deciding factor, ever. I'm not going to vote for someone who is going to make it mandatory to attend church service, or to wear a burka. The latest Huckabee unheard scandal is that he is representing himself as an evangelical Christian with a key endorsement by a man who doesn't even believe Jesus is a messiah.

I'm an Occultist but when you have issues like the above with religion, yes, it should be a campaign issue.

Religion can turn into fascism mighty fast. Look at Hitler.

So do you think it would be better to elect a person with no religion?

A candidate should be allowed to express their faith. The problems come when their faith is used to create a fundamentalist religious state.

That would NEVER happen in the U.S., ahah, but it would be interesting to see what an atheist would do running your country.
