At least people wading in the thing gives it value. Otherwise, it's useless. The monies spent on these projects should have been spent on the long overdue Phase II of the Cabrillo Marina.

Opens July 25th, closes July 26th. Sadly, it won't be appreciated by the residents.

Why bother, Janice?
The barbarians in San Pedro will just deface it, defile it and complain about it. You should have gotten the hint when they tore up the Christmas tree in front of your office. Maybe if you fill the pond with some of that recycled sewage that Mayor Tony V. is so anxious to shove down our throats it will have a deterrent effect. |

Alas, the port has stationed a guy in a city car (electric vehicle, of course) to guard the fountain! While on my walk this morning at 8:30 there was a uniformed port employee sitting in his car on the pavement near the restroom facing the fountain. At time-and-a-half, which is what I assume he is making, how much is this costing the city?? Unless of course, he wasn't really there to keep the swimmers out. He may have just been on a very long break. How long before I can by corn on the cob, ice cream and fruit from one of those unlicensed vendors? They should be arriving soon. Typical Pedro.

Gee, I thought we were supposed to be conserving water. Water emergency? Guess not in San Pedro. It is the prettiest public bath for the homeless I have ever seen though.

OMG...SP has some serious problems with gangs and lack of police patrol and yet $14m IS SPENT ON A FOUNTAIN?????????
What idiotic government official approved that??? |
My thoughts exactly - about this being the prettiest bath for the homeless.
Even if they get a security guard, once he checks out at night, the homeless will come and bathe. Everyone but the decision makers so this one coming - goes to show you an education can't buy common sense. With all of that said, I wouldn't be a against a public wading pool for the kids...but unfortunately, too many poor parents ruin it for everyone.

oops...meant "saw" this one coming...
and let me clarify "poor" means irreponsible, not financially poor. |
What brown bait are you talking about? |
Well THis is sopposed to be something nice..but it is not in a "Location".. We have the ghetto across the street. So since the projects don't have any other sources and the public pool is too far. Yes they will use it as a bath house. Play wading pool.. It looks very nice but common. Lets get real. RELOCATE THE PROJECTS.

How about to RPV? |

This fountain is a waste of public money. Yeah sure, it looks nice, but how many people are really going to stand there and watch that? Honesty? It's not like being in Vegas where you have thousands walking by the fountain at the Bellagio all day.
That intersection is bad enough with lost tourist drivers trying to figure out which lane to be in to get to the cruise terminal, Ports o Call, or the 110. I would not be surprised to see more accidents in that area. |

I love these coments, this fountain is beatiful when it is operating, there down there, fine tuning it everyday, The Port Police will handle this minor problem, as for the gangs, wake up people, there are gangs every where. San Pedro is a great town and am proud to live here. Come down and see our new fountain, just don't swim in it.
Yeah, it is "beatiful", but for $14,000,000??? Plus operating costs??? |

The World War II Monument in our nation's capitol makes a great wading pool in the heat and humidity of Washington DC.. Although "No Wading" signs are posted, many visitors to the monument can't resist soaking their feet in the cool water. Hire a lifeguard instead of a "supervisor". Make this a people's fountain.
Oh, please . . . why put a fountain in the ghetto and then not expect the people to act ghetto.
Are you some kind of fool? Or maybe a racist? Why would anyone from Watts come all the way down to San Pedro to swim in a fountain? I live in San Pedro. There are ignorant people who live here too. |
A complete waste of money. thats our government. They should of built the homeless their own park, and a few other things for the truly unfortunate people who live in America. How stupid for the city to spend money they don't have on a fountain. It's the coast line people wanna see.
