Sure the manual cobalt xfe gets better mileage than the manual civic, however, the automatic civic gets 36, there is no automatic cobalt xfe. And the automatic cobalt LS gets 32 mpg. Its actually amazing they get that kind of mileage in the cobalt since it weighs 3200 pounds to the civics 2600. However, the chevy malibu really beats honda and toyota, but you're better off with the saturn aura, as they put the 6 speed into the base model.

I do reckon that the Camry and Altima hybrids blow the Malibu out of the water when it comes to fuel economy. The Cobalt XFE is a niche car for those looking for compromised performance in lieu of fuel economy. Since it doesn't have an automatic transmission option it really doesn't appeal to the masses. The Cobalt is really hurt in the market by its rental car reputation.

I am hoping the cobalt replacement platform is a much better one than the cobalt, assuming GM survives. If it gets the mileage indicated, it will be a step forward.

As far as compacts go, the competition is clearly pushing out better vehicles. However, GM is in fact catching up. Some vehicles are also matching or getting better MPG than their foreign competition.(i.e.-Toyota, Volkswagen, Honda etc.)

I rest my case.

GM's vehicles are improving to be sure. The cruze is supposed to get 40 mpg. The only question is whether they will be around. Sales are tanking as consumers don't want to buy cars and trucks from a company about to go bankrupt. And reports are that GM has only enough cash to last until late this month. I will look forward to the liquidation sale of GM vehicles. I'd love to have a chevy malibu or saturn aura with the 6 speed auto.

The next week will determine if they survive. I doubt congress will pass a bill, and even if they do, Bush will not sign it. But perhaps the detroit automakers are blowing smoke when they say they cannot survive this month. And even if congress passes a bailout, they will just come back once that is gone with their hands out again. on a totally different topic, I look forward to Honda's new insight hybrid next year. It should sell like hotcakes.

Sounds easy, as long as it doesn't affect you personally, right?.

Don't kid yourself---it will.

BTW, if that's what being a far right conservative advocates, be careful---you just might get more than you expected.!

Canadian?---yes! And proud of it!
'Self anointed heros' like you seem to fancy yourselves superior.
Got news for ya'. Superior you ain't--not by a long shot.
You just demonstrated it. Very clearly.

Liberal?---definitely not! We value things like honesty and integrity here, but we're also realistic when it comes to hearing BS from feebs like---guess who?

Union Buddy?---again definitely not!
Always been on the opposite side of that table.
My assessment on unions is that employers get what they deserve when a union knocks on the door.
In this case, the Detroit Three meet that criteria.

Whiner?---Absolutely not.
Outspoken pragmatist perhaps, but when it comes to comments like yours it's usually the one making them who's the whiner.

Your solution for Automaker's problems?---Narrow minded, selfish, and much too simplistic.
Easy to preach, but not realistic to insist on.

One more thing.
You will most certainly feel the urge to dish out more of your rude and insulting 'advice'.
Keep in mind you got back what you dished out, so when you have your hissy fit, keep in mind you asked for it!
